CAPT. PHIL RECOVERING FROM SURGERY

phil-boysLast night Capt. Phil underwent surgery.  Both of his sons, Josh and Jake were at his side.  Josh flew in from St. Paul to join his brother.  It may be some time before we know anything substantial about Phil’s condition.
Thank you to everyone who has sent good wishes and prayers for Phil, his family and the Cornelia Marie crew.
An old family friend of the F/V Cornelia Marie, Derek Ray flew to St. Paul to take on the role of relief skipper for the rest of the Opilio season.

CAPT. PHIL IS IN THE HOSPITAL, MEDIVACKED FROM ST. PAUL

Captain Phil Harris suffered a stroke yesterday at St. Paul Island in Alaska. He was medivacked to Anchorage and is currently at a hospital receiving treatment.
I didn’t say anything earlier, so family can learn from us instead of through the internet. I know anybody who is reading this also cares about Phil, so we thought you should know as well.
Phil is at a good hospital and receiving the best care possible. My mother, Cornelia Marie Devlin and Jake Harris are with him at the hospital. Josh is staying on the boat to help the new relief skipper who is flying out there today. The boat is in the harbor now, but needs to be able to leave in case the ice shifts and moves in.
Our engineer Steve found Capt. Phil on the floor of his stateroom Friday. He was immediately taken to the clinic in St. Paul – the same place he was treated when he had a blood clot two years ago.
As soon as we receive more information about Phil, we will pass it on to you.

I copied this from www.corneliamarie.com. My prayers are with Captain Phil and his family.

Flat Brittney

Saturday I got an envelope in the mail from my niece, Brittney. It's a project from her school which includes taking flat Brittney on an adventure. Well, my life really isn't that adventurous due in part to the wonderful weather. I love the rain and am grateful it's raining, but it's hard to take Brit on an adventure when you only leave the house to go to work or church. I'll post pictures when I get them off my camera. I have to journal the adventure as well as take pictures. It's been an incredible adventure.

The rain has been something else. My flowerbed next to the house has overflowed twice. Can't wait to see if we end up with subterranian termites cuz of the rain. I am grateful for the rain as it means I don't have to water my lawn for a couple of weeks. I'm saving money. Woo hoo! The rain has been nice. It has cleaned out the sky and washed my car. I have been taking pictures of the sky as it changes. I am obsessed with pictures of the sky. It's so fascinating to me. I'll post some of those pictures later too.

Cat came home from school with a 101 fever. She still isn't feeling very well. Hopefully she feels better in the morning because I need to go to work. However, if she isn't feeling well, Dan should be home early enough so I can go to work at least 1/2 day.

Stitches

In an effort to make 2010 exciting, Catarina decided to crack her forehead open. Apparently she was trying to climb up on the daybed at grandma's and ended up hitting her forehead on the windowsill... This is twice she has cracked her head open on a windowsill. So, we ended up in urgent care waiting for 45 minutes for the doc to come into the room. They gave us some gauze with a numbing agent to hold on her forehead. Then the doc finally came in and said she could use one stitch to make it heal nicely, especially since it's so low on her forehead.

So, with mommy at her side, Cat climbed up on the bed thing and got ready for the stitch. She did really well and only cried a couple of times while the doc gave her shots to numb the spot. Mom did pretty well too, for a while. Thank goodness grandma was there to take over holding Cat. Mom almost passed out. She doesn't have quite as strong a stomach as she thought she did. She had to sit down and put her head between her knees. Apparently she was white as a ghost when grandma took over. Good thing grandma already went thru all of this with her three boys. LOL!

Cat now has one stitch in her forehead and goes in to have the stitch removed in 10 days. She has tape on her forehead to protect the wound while it heals.

Note to self: PAD ALL WINDOWSILLS!!!

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year everyone! Here's hoping 2010 is better than 2009. Today we have cleaned up Christmas and are cleaning house so we can enjoy Saturday for once. Laundry is almost done too. Woo hoo! We are all sick so we went to bed early last night plus Dan had to be at the shooting range this morning at 6am for more academy training.
